About Georgia Phone Directory

In the beginning, Georgia only received one area code, 404, in 1947. Later, in 1954, the area code of 912 was assigned to Georgia’s central and southern areas. Amazingly enough, Georgia did not receive another area code until May 3, 1992 when 706 was assigned for two separate areas outside of the metro Atlanta area. However, complaints from residents prompted a move back to 404. Area code 678 was given to Atlanta and its suburbs in January of 1998, becoming the first overlay area code in Georgia, and forcing mandatory 10-digit dialing for all calls.

Currently, there are nine area codes serving Georgia; the next area code to be implemented should be 229, which is currently estimated for 2018.

229 - Albany, Thomasville, Valdosta, Tifton, Fitzgerald and Americus (southwest Georgia)

404 - Atlanta and immediate areas (central Fulton and DeKalb counties)

470 - Atlanta and its suburbs, overlay area code that covers same area as 404, 678 and 770

478 - Macon, Forsyth, Fort Valley, Warner Robins, Dublin, Eastman and Milledgeville (middle Georgia)

706 - Columbus (west-central Georgia): including Rome, Dahlonega, Toccoa, Athens and Augusta (northwest, northeast, upper east-central Georgia)

678 - Atlanta and its suburbs, overlay area code that covers the same area as 404 and 770

Conducting a Reverse Phone Number Lookup in Georgia

A reverse phone number lookup may be very easy or very hard, depending on what type of phone number is being researched. The easiest is a landline lookup. After that is the reverse cell phone number lookup. Lastly, unlisted phone numbers are the hardest to find. To begin the search, enter the phone number into a search engine. Then, if that does not net you any results, using an online phone directory may provide ownership information. However, this only works for reverse cell phone numbers if the subscriber enters his or her phone number into the service. Lastly, a paid reverse cell phone number service online is often the best option to ensure correct information and a quick turnaround.
